Danny Gokey sang an Earth, Wind and Fire original "September" as his American Idol 04/21/09 Performance. Randy said Danny turned the song to work for him. Kara enthused that his pitch was marvelous. Paula also said she liked it and thought it was sexy. Simon negated them all saying that Danny was awkward and a bit clumsy.
